Hon. Saturday morning. Truth Social. The President of the United States, on his social media platform, on the twenty-second day of the war, posted the following sentence. With the death of Iran, the greatest enemy America has is the Radical Left Democrat Party.

That is the post. No qualifier. No context. No follow-up. The death of Iran. And then the greatest enemy is the Democrats.

Hon. The death of Iran. Iran, last anybody checked, is not dead. Iran is a country with eighty-five million people, a thousand-year history, a capital at Tehran that is, on Saturday morning, still standing. Iran has a parliament and a foreign ministry and a military. Iran has a new supreme leader whose first public address, twelve days ago, vowed to fight. Iran has been closing the Strait of Hormuz for seventeen days. Iran is not dead, hon. Iran is very much alive. Iran is also the country the President of the United States has spent twenty-two days bombing, on a campaign that has cost over twenty billion dollars, and which the Pentagon has just requested another two hundred billion to continue. You do not, hon, spend two hundred billion on a country you have killed.

The second half of the post, hon, is the interesting half. The greatest enemy, now that Iran is dead, is the Radical Left Democrat Party. The Radical Left Democrat Party, hon, is the minority party in both chambers of Congress. The Radical Left Democrat Party is forty-six senators and two hundred and twelve House members and a handful of governors. The Radical Left Democrat Party, on Saturday morning, was not attacking American forces in the Persian Gulf. The Radical Left Democrat Party, on Saturday morning, was not closing the Strait of Hormuz. The Radical Left Democrat Party, on Saturday morning, was raising small-dollar donations and fighting over committee assignments.

The largest enemy of America, on Saturday morning, hon, by every measurable metric, was not the minority party. It was China, in trade. It was Russia, in Ukraine. It was Iran, in the Persian Gulf. It was climate change. It was fentanyl. It was the bond market. The minority party in Congress, by no metric a thoughtful person can name, is on the list.

The post, hon, is not the worst thing about the post. The worst thing about the post is that it names the political opposition as the enemy of the country and ranks them above a country we are at war with. That language, hon, is banana-republic language. That language is the language used by Hugo Chavez and Recep Erdogan and Daniel Ortega. It is, hon, the exact language the Department of State Annual Human Rights Report used to flag, in those countries, in prior administrations, under prior Secretaries of State, under previous administrations of both parties.

You ever notice how the people who say they are patriots keep naming their fellow citizens as the enemy?

Iran, on Saturday afternoon, retaliated. A missile launch. From Yazd province. Toward American assets in the Gulf. The missile was intercepted. The intercept, hon, also cost money. That money, hon, was not posted to Truth Social. That money is on the next supplemental.

Funny how that works.
